Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening cup on 14 different occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the net early on.

Yet, Marseille fired twice late to take a surprise advantage. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial leveler in the dying moments to send the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all scored with composure for PSG to seal a convincing shootout win.

The record winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons.
